Hello From Sergeant Pepper!
Pepper was about 8 months old when we rescued him. He had been a stray, and the veterinarian thinks he is a full-blooded Cocker Spaniel. He has huge paws, but the vet says that’s normal. We named him Sergeant Pepper after the Beatles’ tune “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” because after we lost our dog Lulu Lois was so lonely she needed to fill the void. And we call him Pepper because Don would only agree to a black Cocker Spaniel named Pepper because he had one with that name when he was a kid.
Pepper was younger than we had hoped—the internet ad said he was 4 years old. It turned out to be a good thing, though. It made him easier to train. He came with some pretty serious fears, which made him bark a lot, but we have mostly corrected that problem. If you come to our house, however, he will definitely bark up a storm. He sounds so scary, but he really just wants you to pet him. Crazy dog!
Pepper loves having Lois here most days, working at home on the website. He makes quite a fuss if Lois leaves for an appointment and she doesn’t take him with her. And Don says he keeps looking for her until she gets home. We think he looks a lot like Yosemite Sam (the cartoon character) since he has such a cute beard.
