Recipe Idea: Going to the Pancake Breakfast
I know you know I love pancakes (look for my recipe for pancakes in the archives), so this morning Don and I went to the annual Mennonite Relief Sale & Pancake Breakfast. Yum! It was so good. Scrambled eggs, fresh homemade breakfast sausage, pancakes with applesauce. And…while we were waiting in line, fresh raised doughnuts, just like my Great Grandma Martin made (except she used to shake them in a bag of sugar, and these were lightly glazed).
Here’s a picture of my Great Grandma Martin:
My sister Judy would have looked exactly like her if Judy had lived to be old! Judy passed away from small-cell lung cancer (yes, she was a smoker) in 2007. Grandma Martin, coincidentally, also died of lung cancer, but she was 79 and she never smoked.
Judy had the most delightful sense of humor and a heart as big as a mountain. She drove me crazy as a kid, mostly because she was 6 years younger than me and always wanted to tag along with me. I miss her every day. Here’s Judy at 15:
P.S. I changed my name from Carter Fay to Crawford after 10 years of marriage as an anniversary gift for my husband. He LOVED the gesture. After several years, I’m still getting used to the new name!*
