Caesar Salad. Romaine, special dressing, croutons, parmesan. Yum! This simple salad is amazing with homemade croutons and homemade salad dressing.
Don here, telling you about Homemade Caesar Salad. Who knew that July 4th is National Caesar Salad Day? Terrific comfort food.
This is an easy salad to make. It’s a great task when your guests ask: “What can I do to help?” Just hand them this recipe and the ingredients and let them make the salad.
Try Grilling It
If you want to vary this recipe, try slicing the romaine hearts lengthwise. Drizzle a little olive oil on them and grill them for a few minutes cut side down until the edges begin to char (see recipe for Grilled Romaine). Then add the Caesar Salad Dressing, Parmesan or Pecorino Romano Cheese and Homemade Croutons.
Adding the grilling step is great when the guys want to help. Send them out to the barbeque with the lettuce and a beer ;-).
What You Need
You can use plain old tongs to serve the salad, but I have some like the ones below and I love these for serving. They are so much more efficient! But remember, always buy the best tools you can afford and they will last a lifetime.
And a beautiful wood bowl is a lovely way to serve your salad (I do have one; I just forgot to use it!). Try this Salad Bowl:
Caesar Salad Recipe
Crispy salad with toasted croutons and a salty garlic dressing.
- 1 heart of romaine lettuce (torn into bite sized pieces)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese
- 1/2 cup Homemade Croutons
- 1/4 cup Caesar Salad Dressing
- Tear the romaine into bite-sized pieces and put it into a salad bowl.
- Add a little Caesar dressing and toss.
- Continue adding dressing and tossing until all the lettuce has a light coating of dressing.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese over the salad and toss several times to distribute the cheese more or less uniformly among the lettuce pieces.
Add room temperature Homemade Croutons on top and serve.
