Ingredients

Filling

  • 4 cooking apples (Granny Smith) (I do not peel them.)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping

  • 1/3 cup unbleached flour
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Core and slice apples thinly.
  3. Mix apples with sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Press apples into a 9×12 baking dish.
  5. Mix flour, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon.
  6. Cut butter into the dry mixture wth a pastry cutter until consistency is fine.
  7. Stir in oatmeal and walnuts.
  8. Sprinkle over apple mixture.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes, or until the topping is brown and the apples are tender.
