Ingredients
1-½cupssugar
2eggs
¼teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonvanilla
½cupbutter (or shortening)
1cupboiling water
½cupsweet milk
2cupsflour
2-¼teaspoonssoda
½cupcocoa

Instructions
Cream the sugar, eggs, salt, and vanilla.
Mix in the milk.
Add the flour, cocoa and soda. Whisk a little to combine the soda into the flour and then mix well.
Melt the butter and boil the water; mix them together. Add to the mixture.
Mix well and pour into 3 round cake pans (greased), one 13" x 9" cake pan, or a 12-cupcake tin (line with papers).
Bake in a 350F degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes (20 minutes for round pans or cupcakes) or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Notes
NOTE: If I make this in an oblong pan (9" x 13"), I make 1-½ times the recipe. The cake is very big and fluffy then. Top with Chocolate Frosting. I love it as a layered cake, mostly because I absolutely love chocolate buttercream frosting. My next favorite way to eat this cake is as a cupcake. Bake cupcakes about 20 minutes.
