  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Additional sugar and cinnamon for topping


  1. Preheat the oven to 400F degrees.
  2. Mix the sugar, flour, salt and baking powder.
  3. Add the egg and mix to combine, making sure the egg is thoroughly blended.

  4. Melt the butter.

  5. Add the milk to the butter to cool it off, and then dump both in the cake.

  6. Mix until smooth.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased 8" x 8" cake pan (or 9" x 13" if doubling).

  8. Sprinkle the top of the batter with cinnamon and sugar.

  9. Bake for about 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Serve warm or cold.
