Ingredients

white beans—northern are good
(drained and rinsed)

maple syrup

dry mustard

freshly ground black pepper

tomato paste

ham bone or bacon slices

Instructions
In a medium saucepan, heat the oil and then sauté the onions until transparent, about 5 minutes.
Transfer the onions to a 6-quart slow cooker (crockpot).
Add the beans, syrup, mustard, salt, pepper, tomato paste and water.
Gently stir to combine.
Add the ham bone.
Cover pot and cook on low for 6 hours.
