This spicy Corn Chex party mix is our new favorite variation on the original Chex party mix. I've modified the recipe in various ways over the years, and in my most recent creation, I added extra spice with Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning. The taste is amazing—a kick of spice without overdoing it.

This recipe has probably lasted through the years because it can be customized to your tastes. I think I have the Chex party mix recipe perfected - for my family anyway.

We never cared for Wheat Chex and the Rice Chex are thin and tend to break up easily. So, I use only corn Chex in my recipe.

Without further commentary, I'm listing the recipe below, and then we can talk about variations and cook times.

Spicy Corn Chex Party Mix With Ingredient Variations

A spicy variation on Chex Party Mix with Tony Chachere Creole seasoning, extra Worcestershire Sauce, and special ingredients.

    Ingredients

    • 9 cups Corn Chex™ cereal
    • 1 cup salted cocktail peanuts
    • 1 cup goldfish crackers or cheese-its
    • 1 cup pecan halves
    • 6 tablespoons butter or margarine
    • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • ¾ teaspoons Tony Chachere Original Creole Seasoning
    • ¾ teaspoons seasoned salt
    • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon onion powder

    Directions

    1. Melt butter in the microwave, then mix in Worcestershire sauce, Tony Chachere Seasoning, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    2. Combine Corn Chex, goldfish or crackers, peanuts, and pecans in a large microwavable bowl.
    3. Pour ⅓ of the melted butter mixture over the Chex mixture and stir well. Continue adding the butter mixture a little at a time and stirring well to coat all of the mix.
    4. Microwave on high for 6 minutes, stirring the Chex mix every 2 minutes.
    5. Allow the Spicy Chex Mix to cool and taste test. Sprinkle more seasonings over the Chex Mix if it isn't seasoned enough for you!
    6. Store in an airtight container.

    Notes And Recipe Variation Ideas

    1. Adjust the ratio of seasoned salt and Tony Chachere Creole seasoning to your taste.
    2. Do not skip stirring the party mix while it is cooking. The Chex mixture tends to clump up and burn, and stirring helps break up the clumps or prevent them from forming.
    3. If the mix tastes bland after it is cooked, add extra seasoning. Sprinkle any or all of the seasonings onto the mix until the taste is just right.
    4. Variations: Use dry-roasted peanuts instead of cocktail peanuts, but do not add them until after the Chex has cooked for 2 minutes. The dry-roasted nuts tend to scorch if cooked too long. Add mixed nuts or no nuts at all, just add more Chex cereal and crackers to the mix. Other additions to consider: sesame sticks, pretzels, bagel chips, any kind of nuts, and oyster crackers.
