Recipe Idea: Holiday Fruit Cocktail Salad
Hi. It’s Lois in the kitchen at Recipe Idea Shop, with Holiday Fruit Cocktail Salad. It’s super easy, looks pretty and most kids will love it. Just two ingredients! Or four, if you add the optional ingredients. Holiday Fruit Cocktail Salad is one of our kids’ holiday favs.
We always had this fruit salad at holiday gatherings when I was a kid. Of course, my mom used “Dream Whip” instead of whipped cream. I don’t even know if you can find that anymore. There’s always Cool Whip, though, for those of you who like your chemicals (like our son-in-law)!
The pictures don’t really do it justice. I usually add additional maraschino cherries to make it prettier, and because the kids love them. But I didn’t have any cherries this time. I sprinkled a little nutmeg on top to add to the presentation.
I prefer real Whipped Cream, plain without anything added to it. Some people like to add a little powdered sugar and vanilla to it, however. If you choose to add sugar and/or vanilla, do it at the end of the whipping process so you make sure the cream retains its fluffiness.
If you are dairy free, you can make this salad with Whipped Coconut Cream. It would be equally as good.
