I grew up in the South, where groves of pecan trees line the highways. My aunt and uncle owned a trailer park (that's what we called mobile home communities in the old days) with an abundance of pecan trees.
When the pecans fell from the trees during October and November, we would pick them up, crack the shells to remove the pecan meat, make pies or Chex party mix, or just toast the pecans. Good times!
I still love a good pecan pie and trying new recipes is one of my favorite things to do especially during the wintertime. There is just something about cold weather that makes you want to hibernate...and eat.
