    How To Make New York Style Bagels At Home

    New York Bagels are chewy and have a thin, crispy crust. There is no other bagel in the world with this distinctive texture. They taste best when fresh out of the oven, so if you bake them at home, you have it made!

    New York Style Bagels Recipe

    Serving: 6 bagels

    Preparation time: 30 minutes

    Waiting time: 1h and 20 minutes

    Cook time 20 minutes.

    Total time: 2h 10 minutes

    ingredients to make New York Style Bagels

    Ingredients:

    2 teaspoons active dry yeast

    2 ½ cups white bread flour (and a little extra for flouring surfaces and kneading)

    2 tablespoon granulated sugar

     1 cup warm milk

    1tbsp sesame seeds

    1tbsp poppy seeds

    1tsp salt

    Preparation:

    1. Start proofing yeast in a small bowl: mix warm milk( can be substituted with warm water) and add sugar. Leave it aside for 5-10 minutes.

    1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and yeast mixture. Grease your hands with oil and make a dough. At this point, the dough might be very sticky. Add a little water(2-4 tbsp) to make it more manageable.

    1. Sprinkle your surface with flour and knead the dough for about 20 minutes, this step is necessary to get rid of air bubbles and make your bagels chewy.

     

    1. Add some oil to the bottom of the bowl, place the dough in it, and leave it in a warm place for about 1 hour. Cover with a dish towel.

    1. Divide the dough into six pieces. Shape each piece into a ball with a small hole in the middle (about 1 inch). You can use a finger or the end of a wooden spoon. Repeat with the other five dough balls. After all bagels are shaped, leave them aside for 10-15 minutes.

    1. Preheat your oven to 320F. Boil some water in a large pot, and cook all bagels on each side for 1-2 minutes. Let them cool down on a tray. brush bagels with egg wash mixture and cover with sesame or poppy seedsBrush your bagels with an egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame and poppy seeds, or leave them plain. Bake for about 20-25 minutes.
