Do you know what the basic ingredients of a good cheese ball are? That would be cream cheese, cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
Well, this cheese ball has all those goodies, but I kick the flavor up several notches with dried beef, black olives, and Accent for even more flavor. The cheese ball has to be the best party food ever invented.
Cheese has a lot of protein, which is good for you, but it contains quite a bit of fat; you might not think the fat part is so great, but back in the day, cavemen needed fats and protein for energy. That's why our brains are wired to crave cheese. Who knew!
I have several go-to appetizers made with cheese. One of our family favorites is a hot dip, meaning heat hot, not spicy hot, that we simply call it "The Dip." It's so fabulous, very rich and flavorful.
Another of my cheese ball recipes includes Velvetta cheese, cream cheese, pecans, and garlic powder rolled in chili powder. Yummy.
Dried Beef Cream Cheese Ball Recipe
Ingredients
2 8 ounce Blocks of Cream Cheese , soften
1 cup Shredded Medium or Sharp Cheese
1 2.25 ounce Jar Hormel 95% Fat Free Dried Beef (rinsed)
1 2.25 ounce Can Chopped Black Olives (diced)
1 small Bunch Green Onions chopped
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Accent
Ingredient Prep
-
- Soften the cream cheese
- Rinse and pat dry the dried beef
- Chop the green onions- the white and light green parts, and just a little of the dark green blades.
- Dice the black olives with a mini chopper or by hand
Instructions
Combine softened cream cheese, Accent, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Lay the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap and gather the sides to pull the wrap around the cheese mixture. Twist the wrap to shape the mixture into a ball.
Refrigerate and let the ingredients meld for a couple of hours before serving.
Notes
This recipe makes enough to divide the mixture into two cheese balls. Serve with Wheat Thins, Sociables, or your favorite crackers.
I like to first add the spices and Worcester Sauce to the cream cheese, so it is incorporated well before mixing in the other ingredients.
The cheese ball should keep well in the refrigerator for up to a week.
