Swedish Meatloaf, scrumptious comfort food.
Swedish Meatloaf Recipe
Hey. It’s Lois in the kitchen at Recipe Idea Shop, telling you about my Swedish Meatloaf. This Swedish Meatloaf is modified from my Swedish Meatballs recipe, and it’s really good! In fact, this is my favorite Meatloaf recipe. It is also very tasty the next day, warmed up or cold on a sandwich.
When I was a child, I didn’t like baked potatoes…unless they were served with Meatloaf and I could mix the meatloaf into the potato. My Mom’s Meatloaf is delicious, and so is this meatloaf. This is one of those mix-it-up-and-stick-it-in-the-oven recipes. Bake a potato and the meatloaf in the oven for about an hour while you relax and wind down from your day.
Swedish Meatloaf and a baked potato sounds perfect to me anytime, but especially when it’s cold outside!
No special tools are required for this recipe. You will need a knife, cutting board, large bowl, measuring cups and a loaf pan. There are many different meatloaf pans, but I have never seen any point in using one because it doesn’t keep the meatloaf from sitting in the grease, and you can easily lift the meatloaf out of a standard loaf pan without it falling apart. So why wash two pans when you could wash one? What do you think?
Swedish Meatloaf Recipe
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
Mix beef, pork, bread crumbs, milk, egg, onion, salt, nutmeg and pepper until thoroughly combined.
Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a loaf pan to bake.
Mix all three ingredients (ketchup, brown sugar, mustard) together and spread this mixture on top of the meatloaf.
- Bake the meatloaf for about 1 hour at 350F degrees.
