Dark Chocolate Pecan Toffee Candy With Saltine Crust And Sea Salt Recipe

Most recipes call for milk chocolate but we are fans of dark chocolate and the sea salt is my fun modification. I love sea salt on chocolate....oh, and caramel too.

    Ingredients:

    • 40 - 50 saltine crackers
    • 2 sticks butter
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
    • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
    • ½ cup toasted chopped pecans
    • sea salt

    Directions:

    • Preheat oven to 400F.
    • Melt butter, mix in sugar, and bring to a boil, stirring continuously for 3 minutes
    • Remove from heat and add vanilla flavoring
    • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil sprayed with cooking spray
    • Cover the cookie sheet completely with saltine crackers.
    • Pour the sugar and butter mixture over the crackers.
    • Put the cookie sheet in the oven for 6 minutes.
    • Remove from oven and sprinkle with 1 cup dark chocolate chips.
    • Let sit until the chocolate chips become soft and shiny. (2-3 minutes)
    • Spread chocolate with a flat knife to cover the entire pan.
    • Sprinkle with toasted, chopped pecans or favorite nuts.
    • Sprinkle very lightly with sea salt
    • Cool and break into pieces.

    Variation:

You can make this recipe gluten-free by substituting saltines with Blue Diamond almond nut-thins with a hint of sea salt crackers.
