This recipe makes the best baked beans. When hubby saw what was cooking, he asked, "Did you add some molasses?" He was surprised that the recipe didn't call for molasses, but when he took a bite, he said, "Mmmmmmm. These are good!"

I couldn't find my grandmother's baked beans recipe so I went on the hunt. This recipe was inspired by Robin Robertson's version found in Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker. I found a ham bone in my freezer yesterday, and I added it to the pot.

If you don't have a ham bone you can add a few slices of bacon or at least a little bacon grease. I always save my bacon grease, don't you? I like to use it in my cornbread. It gives the bread such a good flavor.

The recipe is so simple: Saute the onion and dump everything in the slow cooker on low for 4-6 hours.

Every kitchen should have the very best tools you can afford. At the least, buy yourself a good set of pans, a slow cooker, an Instant Pot, measuring cups and spoons, and the best set of chef's knives you can afford. Also, be sure to get a full sized food processor and a mini food processor. These tools are essential for any well-equipped kitchen!
