These crackers are a crowd-pleaser at family gatherings, office parties, holiday festivities, potlucks, and game day hangouts because:

    • Easy to make in large batches.
    • They can be assembled ahead of time.
    • The sweet-and-salty combination is highly addictive—it's nearly impossible to eat just one!
What you need to complete this recipe:

    Ingredients:
1 block (5 ounces) Parmesan Cheese
Town House Crackers (enough to cover baking rack, about 36 crackers)
                    ½ pound Thin Sliced Bacon
                    ⅓-1/2 cup Brown Sugar
                    ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

    Supplies:
                    Baking Sheet with Wire Rack
                    Parchment Paper
                    Nonstick Cooking Spray
                    Small Bowl

    What makes them so great??

Sweet and Salty Taste: The contrast between the savory, salty bacon and the lovely, caramelized brown sugar.
Crunch Factor: They start with a buttery, crispy cracker that gets even better with bacon and brown sugar crisped in the oven.
Smoky Flavor: The bacon imparts a delicious smoky goodness that is enhanced by the sweet glaze.
Spicy Kick: Cayenne pepper or black pepper added to the brown sugar perfectly balances the sweetness.

How To Make Spicy Bacon Crackers

    spicy glazed bacon cracker appetizers

You can use your favorite crackers instead of Town House crackers, though the bacon fits almost perfectly on the club cracker shape and not as well on round or rectangular crackers.

    Gather your ingredients:

A slate board holds brown sugar bacon crackers with cream cheese, surrounded by a wedge of cheese, a bowl of grated cheese, a measuring spoon with paprika, and a striped towel on a wooden table.
    • 1 block (5 ounces) Parmesan Cheese
    • Town House Crackers (enough to cover baking rack, about 36 crackers)
    • ½ pound Thin Sliced Bacon
    • ⅓-1/2 cup Brown Sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
How to make maple flavored bacon crackers with brown sugar
    • 1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
    • 2. Grate the Parmesan cheese, set aside.
    • 3. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • 4. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet and spray rack with nonstick cooking spray.
    • 5. Line the crackers in a single layer on top of the wire rack.
    • 6. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top of each cracker.

    7. Cut the bacon strips to fit top of crackers and place one piece of bacon on each cracker

    8. Combine the brown sugar and cayenne pepper in a small bowl, then top each cracker with about a teaspoon of the sugar mixture.

    9. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the bacon is browned and crisp to your liking being careful not to over brown the crackers.

    9. Loosen the crackers from the rack before they cool.

    10. Serve after cooling or place in a storage container.

    Notes:

Loosen the crackers from the rack immediately after baking to prevent them from sticking and breaking.

Crackers will be softer when warm, but will harden after cooling. These crackers tend to taste better if they are allowed to cool and harden before serving.

It is important not to skip using the wire rack, the crackers do not cook as well if cooked flat on the baking sheet.

    How should I store them?

Store any leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container, up to 3 days.

Can I make this ahead of time and freeze it?

This recipe does not freeze well, but can be made the day before planning to serve.

Are there any substitutions that I can make?

Red pepper flakes may be substituted for cayenne pepper.

For a spicier version, add a pickled jalapeño slice to the top of each cracker before baking.

Pre-grated parmesan cheese can be substituted for a block, this can save time as you will not have to grate it yourself.

    Notes

Be sure to carefully loosen the crackers from the rack as soon as they come out of the oven and then let them cool or they will become stuck and be hard to get off of the rack without breaking the crackers.
Crackers will be softer straight out of the oven, but will harden after cooling. These crackers tend to taste better if they are allowed to cool and harden before serving.
It is important not to skip using the wire rack, the crackers do not cook as well if cooked straight on the baking sheet.
